Sabilex has developed Biostrong, a high-performance polymer made from PEEK, which has unique properties.

The sharp increase in allergies, metal intolerance symptoms and sensitivity to galvanic currents, have led to a change in thinking when it comes to selecting and using dental materials. Metal-free restorations are increasingly requested.

PEEK is a widely used material in industry that has also found its way into biomedicine. It was patented in 1981 as an implant material and approved by the FDA in 1999, mainly in the fields of orthopedics and traumatology, but also in neurosurgery. In dentistry, it is effectively used for implants, removable partials, telescopic structures, crowns, bridges and hybrid dentures. PEEK-based biomaterials are a generation of bioactive materials, which can work alone or in combination with other biomaterials to enhance their properties.

Characteristics:

-High performance semicrystalline polymer, based on PEEK

-Its hardness and strength is comparable to stainless steel.

-Comfortable and light for the patient.

-It’s hard and resistant to abrasion, and has a low coefficient of friction.

-Maintains its physical and chemical integrity.

-It does not present any problem to X-rays and MRIs.

-Biocompatible material resistant to the formation of bacterial plaque.

- Coverable with conventional or ceromer composite.

- Easy to polish.

-Currently, it is considered the most biocompatible and least toxic material for the oral cavity.

-Maintains its properties when subjected to different temperatures.

-PEEK is FDA approved.

Uses and applications

For the production of crowns, bridges, attachments, bars on implants, telescopic structures and more.

  • • It can be covered with composites, ceromers and other materials to achieve optimal aesthetics.

Ways to Inject Biostrong Peek::

It can be injected from pellets without having to do it with the CAD/CAM or Pantograph system, so it is not necessary to start from a block of material, which makes it much cheaper.

- With the conventional technique in a flask (with the art SF 560 standard flask or the art SF 580 for unilaterals)

- In rings specially designed by Sabilex to inject it with investment material.

Injection Parameters

Injection temperature of 380/390ºC and a heating time of 20 min.

It can be injected with Sabilex injectors that reach up to 400 ºC, such as the Biostrong 400 microinjector, the 2AD-400 and others.

There are 2 different varieties of Biostrong (Peek)

Biostrong P (standard)

Cream

Modulus of elasticity: 3600 MPa.

Flexural strength: 168 MPa.

Tensile strength: 95 MPa.

Biostrong CF (Ceramic Filled) It is a variant of Biostrong P with ceramic filling.

The ceramic filling provides optimized mechanical characteristics, obtaining excellent polishing results and better adhesion qualities with coating resins.

Biostrong CF has an elasticity similar to bone.

White color

Modulus of elasticity: 4000 MPa.

Flexural strength: 185 MPa.

Tensile strength: 95 MPa.
